Our Plan

Getting the Word Out

This is probably the most important aspect of Rivers Climate Action. While many people in Amherst, Massachusetts, and the world have accepted that climate change is impacting the world in terms of rising sea levels, global temperature increases, and melting ice caps, the local impact of Global Warming is being missed. Our rivers, fish, and access to clean drinking water are becoming increasingly imperiled. It is our mission to work with community leaders, scientists, advocates, and the media to bring the message home to Massachusetts and the world that you ARE being impacted by climate change NOW, and we have to be making changes now to prevent catastrophic extinctions and droughts.

Bringing Scientists Together

The Rivers Climate Action initiative will be backed by the leading river scientists in the United States and the world. Their support will be cemented in a letter that will be introduced and signed at the first convocation of the River Science Alliance. The Alliance will be tasked with directing river research and proposing legislation and advice to resource managers to promote river health and to mitigate the effects of climate change on our rivers.

How You Can Make a Difference

We invite everyone, environmental organizations, advocacy groups, resource managers, legislators, scientists, researchers, students and private citizens to get involved with Rivers Climate Action. We welcome volunteers, especially for our River Festival in the spring, and donations are essential to keep the campaign moving forward. We have also posted an easy to follow list of minor life changes that will make a difference in the fight against global warming, and will lower your monthly expenses as well! See it here.
